Summing up on rattling speedometers

First of all thanks to all previous writers on the subject - combined it was very useful. For newcomers – like myself – the tip on how to remove the tank is especially useful as the official Owner’s Manual forgets about the pushing to the left before lifting the rear end.

Assuming that the source of the sound has been identified – as suggested previously – by putting the hand on the speedometer this is what I suggest:

Assuming that there’s a good reason for the springs being a part of holding the speedometer to the tank it’s apparent that the tension is too slack. So: either replace the three springs with stronger ditto or – like I did – insert a washer under each spring. The result is that the springs get more tensed while still solving the purpose.

The solution seems to be so simple, which is why it annoys me that neither Suzuki nor my workshop has solved it already long time ago. I am surprised how quiet driving has become after this fix. There’s hardly any left except for the one that was one of my main reasons for buying the Savage: The big banger in the centre.
